Food for the Scalp: Home-Made Onion Recipes for Healthy Hair Regrowth

 By

Allium cepa, which is popularly known as onion, is a staple ingredient in delicious recipes.
Not only does it add a burst of flavor to your home-cooked meals but it also has a long history of medicinal uses.
In fact, today, scientists have discovered the potential of onions for treating hair loss and other scalp problems.
With its excellent cleansing, nourishing, conditioning, and antibacterial properties, onion serves as an excellent agent for hair loss treatment. This spice also stimulates proper blood flow, delivering enough oxygen and nutrients to the hair roots to encourage healthier hair regrowth.
In addition, onions contain important minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, as well as vitamins C and B6. It is also high in sulfur, a useful element in promoting hair regrowth. A high level of sulfur in collagen tissues helps prevent further hair loss and hair thinning problems.
Whether you are balding or your hair is thinning, you can stimulate the growth of healthy hair with basic home-made recipes with onions as the main ingredient.
Here are a few onion recipes to improve the health of the scalp and hair:
1. Plain Onion Juice. First, chop 1 whole onion and put the chopped onion in a grinder to extract as much juice out of it.
To open the pores of the scalp, apply warm oil then wrap the scalp with a towel or shower cap. Take out the towel or the shower cap after one hour, then apply the onion juice.
The application of warm oil prior the onion juice enables the hair follicles to easily absorb the juice, thereby increasing efficiency in nourishing the scalp and stimulating hair regrowth.
2. Onion and Honey Blend. Mix 1 teaspoon of onion juice with a teaspoon of honey. Then, massage the hair and scalp using this mixture and let it sit for 20-25 minutes. Afterward, wash the hair with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo to remove the residue.
3. Onion and Beer Hair Pack. Grind one onion bulb in a blender. Add one teaspoon of coconut oil and a small cup of beer to make a gel-like paste.
Massage the mixture onto the scalp and apply to the hair. Leave it on until the mixture will dry up on the scalp. Afterwards, rinse the hair with water and an herbal shampoo to remove the smell and the residue.
The beer along with the onion ingredient will also give your hair a natural shine.
